Morning / midday

Dachau station is easily accessible by MVV and DB public transport. 

Your visit takes you to Rathausplatz Dachau (bus route 719 from Dachau station). There you will explore the Audio tour the old town on your own. The tour ends at the Wittelsbach Palace in Dachau with its impressive courtyard garden and (weather permitting) stunning views of Munich and the Alps.

Lunch / coffee time

Strengthen yourself in one of the surrounding Cafés or restaurants and at the end enjoy once again the unique distant view over Munich from the town hall terrace.

Here you will also find a painting stele of the Dachau Artists' Trail, which gives you an impression of what the plain you are looking at today must have looked like in 1861.

The 719 bus takes them back to Dachau station in nine minutes.

A day trip recommended for: Guests who would like to get to know Dachau as a place of learning and remembrance and as an artists' colony.

Morning/Lunch

Accessibility by public transport makes Dachau a good destination for excursions in the Munich area: after a short journey from Munich, you can start your excursion directly at Dachau station forecourt and follow the Path of remembrance, which takes you to the concentration camp memorial in about 40 minutes on foot.

Along the way you will learn interesting facts about the Nazi era in Dachau on 12 information boards. 

The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial on an open tour (daily 12 noon, tickets at the visitor center, duration approx. 2.5 hours) or on your own with an audio guide.

Afternoon

Take the bus to the historic center, where you can enjoy a bite to eat in one of the cafés or restaurants.

Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the picture gallery, the museum of the Dachau artists' colony or a walk along the artists' trail, which leads through the old town and along the Amper river.

Would you like to use your day trip to relax in nature? Dachau offers surprising oases of peace and places of power in nature. Stroll along the Amper river through the CityOases, relax in the green, inner-city parks or enjoy a picnic with the family. Cool off on hot days in the shady lime tree walkway and the water treading facility in the Moorbadpark. The town and its surroundings offer numerous opportunities for outdoor activities and relaxation. Dachau's tourist information office has brochures and a hiking booklet available for guests who want to explore the area on foot on a day trip.

Recommended for: If you want to stay overnight, immerse yourself in culture, history and nature without stress.

Morning/Lunch - Day 1

A relaxed start to your weekend excursion (orientation & history)

Arrival and check-in at the selected Accommodation. Then take the 719 city bus from Dachau station to the town hall. Get a first impression on a tour of the historic old town. We recommend our regular open guided tours. Let yourself be impressed by the exterior view of Dachau Palace, the nature and tranquillity of the associated courtyard garden and the unique distant view over Munich. Afterwards, you can enjoy a relaxed lunch in one of the many restaurants. Cafés or restaurants to round off the first part of their trip to Dachau. 

Afternoon

Visit to the Dachau concentration camp memorial (from the old town from the town hall with bus 720/change „John-F.-Kennedy-Platz“ to bus 726, total time: approx. 20 minutes). Here you can learn more about the National Socialist era and the history of the Dachau concentration camp. We recommend visiting as part of a guided tour or borrowing an audio guide. Open guided tours take place daily. Individual group tours can be obtained from the Tourist Information Office of the town of Dachau. 

Evening

After dinner, you can choose from a concert, exhibition or theater visit. A look at the Calendar of events is worth it!

Morning - Day 2

Continue your excursion with art and nature (Art & Culture)

After you have fortified yourself with a leisurely breakfast in a café or at your hotel, take a walk in the fresh air on the Dachauer Artist's path (e.g. Artists' Trail Old Town: circular route with 18 stations, walking time approx. 1.5 to 2 hours) into landscape painting along charming alleyways, historic buildings and impressive nature. 

Noon

Picnic or lunch in the historic old town.

Afternoon

Marvel at and visit local works of art and artists, for example in the Picture gallery, the gallery of the Dachau Artists' Association KVD or the Gallery in the Dachau water tower and enjoy the creative atmosphere that this city exudes. Dachau is very easy to reach from Munich. You can either travel by train (20 minutes from Munich Central Station) or by car (approx. 30 minutes). There are plenty of parking facilities in the city.

Dachau is ideal for a day trip from Munich for families with children. There is often a nice playground near the sights and walking trails, you can discover beaver tracks on the Amper river, the district museum offers content specially prepared for children and the tourist information office has child-friendly information and offers especially for children. The Dachau outdoor pool is recommended for longer stays in summer.

Many sights in Dachau are barrier-free. However, it is recommended to check directly with the respective facilities before visiting to ensure that they meet individual needs. The Old Town area is only partially accessible for wheelchair users. Dachau's Old Town and Dachau Castle are situated on a hill and the Old Town area has historic cobblestones. Barrier-free walkways have already been created in some areas. Many bus stops have already been made barrier-free.
