St. Jakob - Catholic parish church

With its 44-meter-high octagonal tower, the parish church of St. Jakob towers over Dachau's old town, visible from afar.

The current building was constructed in 1624/25 in the late Renaissance style. There was previously a small late Gothic church on this site, from which the sacristy and the square basement are still preserved. The baroque tower was built between 1676 and 1678.

The choir was built under the direction of the Munich court architect Friedrich Sustris, while the nave was designed by Hans Krumpper. The church was extended by one bay in 1926.

The south side of the nave is adorned with a stately sundial from the 18th century, which shows not only the time, but also the month and zodiac sign.
