As a staunch opponent of National Socialism, Bruno Furch left the country after the occupation of Austria in March 1938. He went to Spain to join the International Brigades to fight against Franco's fascism. The fall of the Spanish Republic meant that he and many other Interbrigadists were interned in French camps. From there, he was taken to Dachau concentration camp in May 1941 and transferred to Flossenbürg concentration camp in July 1944. He survived the terrible death march to Dachau. After liberation, he worked for the Austrian Communist Party and was deputy editor-in-chief of the Volksstimme.
He processed his experiences and encounters in the concentration camps in paintings and poems. The exhibition shows a selection of his works.
