The brass players of the hr-Sinfonieorchester began working as an ensemble in 1986 for the joy of making music together and quickly developed into a distinguished brass ensemble. Thanks to its virtuoso and homogeneous ensemble sound - a result not least of the joint orchestral work - the ensemble now enjoys success far beyond Germany's borders. Regular collaboration with leading figures in brass chamber music such as Philip Jones (London), Edward H. Tarr (Basel), Jiggs Whigham (Cologne) and Lutz Köhler (Hanover) has played a decisive role in shaping the ensemble's specific profile. The generational change that has taken place in the brass section of the hr-Sinfonieorchester brings a new freshness to the ensemble's concerts. In the early days of hr-brass, Reinhold Friedrich was the “Spiritus Rector” and played a key role in shaping the ensemble's artistic profile. He is now succeeded by Sebastian Berner, who, as a Maurice André prizewinner, is very active in setting new accents, both in the artistic and repertoire fields.
