Hans Neumeyer was born in Munich on September 13, 1887. His Jewish parents ran a clothing store in Sendlinger Straße.
He went completely blind at the age of 14. After studying music, he co-founded a music school. He also worked as a lecturer for acoustics and improvisation in Hellerau near Dresden. It was there that he met Vera Ephraim. After marrying her in July 1920, he moved to Dachau with her. Their children Ruth and Raimund were born in 1923 and 1924 respectively.
From 1933, he was banned from his profession and was no longer allowed to teach. Hans Neumeyer experienced the events of the Reichspogromnacht on November 8/9, 1938 in Berlin, where he took lessons in flute making.
After being expelled from Dachau, he moved to Munich. Several changes of residence put a strain on the family.
On May 11, 1939, the children arrived in England on a Kindertransport. On June 4, 1942, Hans Neumeyer's name appears on a transport list to the Theresienstadt ghetto. He continued to teach music there and fell ill with tuberculosis at the end of 1943.
Hans Neumeyer died on May 19, 1944 as a result of his illness.
