Local recreation at the gates of Munich:
The WaterBikeTrails Upper Bavaria with its Hop & Beer and Art & Culture Loops run directly through the city. After all, the art of brewing and painting were once closely linked here. Even though none of Dachau's former seven brewhouses still exist, the buildings of the Unterbräu, Hörhammerbräu and Zieglerbräu still characterize the appearance of the former market today. The owners of the breweries were often established personalities with great influence on the fortunes of their town. In Dachau in particular, during the heyday of the old town breweries, they also shaped cultural life through their close connection to the prominent representatives of the former artists' colony at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Sample some of the regional beer specialties in the old town alleyways or visit the painting gallery of the former Dachau artists' colony. You will also come across painters and their works of art from this period time and again at the painting steles on the artists' trail. Along the cycle paths and in the town, beer gardens and the many restaurants and cafés invite you to take a break. If you have brought your own picnic, you will find snack tables and benches at the Amper playground in the middle of the greenery between the river and the Schlossberg.

From Dachau station, this tour offers a low-traffic connection to Munich. Starting on the west side of Dachau railroad station (bus station), the route follows the railroad line towards Munich out of Dachau and crosses it at Karlsfeld S-Bahn station.
First follow Bahnhofstraße, then turn left into Münchner Straße and just before the underpass turn right into Josef-Scheidl-Straße, which you now follow along the railroad tracks. Continue along Johann-Sperl-Weg and Lovis-Corinth-Straße along Alte Bayernwerkstraße/Bayernwerkstraße. From the other side of Karlsfeld S-Bahn station, the route leads through the Allacher Lohe, a so-called „Lohwald“, a mixture of sparse forest and the heathland typical of the north of Munich, which forms the transition from the fens of the Dachauer Moos to the Munich gravel plain.
The tour crosses a bridge over the Munich marshalling yard and after a short time leads along the railroad tracks and Max-Born-Straße to the right and along well-maintained cycle paths through the Olympiapark Nord past the Olympic Stadium into Alt-Schwabing and along Clemensstraße to Münchner Freiheit. From here it is only a few minutes by bike to the city center or to the English Garden and Kleinhesseloher See.
