At the beginning of the 19th century, the property belonged to the Unterbräu pub opposite. The so-called Unterbräustadel served as an event room, and the Dachau Christmas plays were held here from 1903 to 1906. During the First World War, the Unterbräustadel became the Catholic Society House and the center of Catholic club life. Parts of the library that had been built up there since 1919 were made available to the Dachau concentration camp for a camp library during the Second World War. In 1933, the NSDAP took over the „Gesellschaftshaus“ as a venue for events. Dachau's first movie theater was located here. When this closed, the town of Dachau converted the building into a clubhouse and event venue in 1973/74; it was extended and redesigned in 1991/92. The relief in the entrance area (stone column with the Dachau city skyline) dates from this renovation phase and is by Karl Halt Trossbach. Today, the municipal event venue is a center of cultural life in Dachau.
